“Historic England is the public body that helps people care for, enjoy and celebrate England’s spectacular historic environment; Humphries Weaving have supplied historic interiors fabric for a number of these key attractions”
Under the previous banner of English Heritage, the team at Humphries Weaving are called upon to advise and provide historic interiors fabric for renovation schemes of National Importance.
Although small in number these projects are exacting and thoughtful. The end uses include walling, curtains and upholstery and the team frequently draw on documented evidence and historical academic research to reproduce authentic period interior schemes. In the case of Osborne House Richard Humphries even built an entirely new Jacquard harness to undertake the weaving of the unique isometric design seen in the Yellow Drawing Room.
Nearly 400,000 of the most important historic places in England are listed with Historic England. This includes buildings, battlefields, monuments, parks, gardens, shipwrecks and more. Listing makes sure their value is protected. Humphries Weaving have supplied fabrics for Apsley House, Audley End, Kenwood House, Ranger’s House, Osbourne House and Down House and continue to offer advise and guidance for up coming projects and conservation work.
