Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

A series of seven epic fantasy novels written by the British author J. K. Rowling based on the life and story of the boy Wizard Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The books were made into a hugely successful feature film franchise by Warner Bros with the chamber of Secrets being the second installment of both the books and films.

Spider’s Web Special Effects.

This is tiny project in the History of Humphries Weaving but one that is noticed time and time again, testament to the enduring popularity of the Harry Potter franchise.

Richard Humphries was approached by the Warner Brothers to create a yarn that would be suitable to create spiders webs that would be effective on film. Through a little trialing Richard developed a specially twisted Silk and metallic thread incorporating several silver tones to give dimension.

This yarn was then created into Spiders Webs by the special effects team for scenes involving Harry and Ron entering the forbidden forest following the spiders that had fled the castle to escape the creature. Harry and Ron were carried by the spiders into a massive domed web, home to the blind spider Aragog constructed in the yarn Humphries Weaving supplied.

The exterior filming location for Hogwarts is Alnwick Castle, where we have also carried out work, although this cannot be seen in the films.
